    Spring Photo Contest

    Hey Gang,
I've an opportunity to enter a photo contest sponsored by Outdoor Photography Canada, a national magazine.   I've pre-selected a few that I'm considering but have to limit it to one.  If you've got a moment, let me know which 2 are your favorites.  I'd appreciate it!!!!

~Please keep in mind that my upcoming exhibits will be posted real soon.  Be sure to check back periodically to find out when and where~

    New Members Exhibit

I've another exhibit up and coming at Beaux-Arts Brampton, this one my biggest by far.  There will only be a few of us displaying our art work,  all new members of the gallery within the last year.  I'll be displaying over 10 of my photographs,  the majority being part of a new line of pictures that I am looking forward to having you see.   I'd love for those of you who are able to make it, to come to the reception for the two week event ( Feb 24th thru Mar 7th), this Thursday the 26th anytime between 6 - 9.  I've agreed to oversee the catering so I can promise you that the munchies will be tasty and the refreshments thirst quenching.   Or At least that is what I'm hoping...lol!

70 - 74 Main Street North in Downtown Brampton, north of Queen.

The local press has promised to be there so put on your best  smiles and come out for a chance to check out the studios upstairs and meet the other 4 new Artists/Photographers who are exhibiting in this show.

Also, I was fortunate enough to have a picture on display at Visual Arts Missisauga's Annual Valentines Exhibit.  It was a wonderful event,  showcasing the works of a wide array of  Artists/Photographers of all ages.  A special shout out of thanks to Liz, Jean-Claude, and John, who were my guests that evening.   It was a lot of fun ~

    Season's Greetings ~

    Hello Gang,

The holiday's are here again.  Boy, time flies.  It just seems like yesterday that summer was just around the corner and we were looking forward to getting outside to enjoy the good weather.  Thank God for Christmas, bringing with it lots to keep us occupied, to help speed through the colder season ahead.

Firstly, I hope you've had the chance to check out my current album of photographs.  Not all of the pictures were taken over the last few months but all of them are new to my blog.

I've a number of events on the go.  I'm hoping some of you will make it out to 1 or 2 of them, 2 of which are juried competitions that include a 'People Choice Award' presented to the winning Artist/Photographer once the exhibits comes to an end ~

    The list is as follows:

I'll be this year's selected vendor at Peel Pride's Holiday Dance, www.prideeventspeel.com, at Norma Jeane's, a night club located in the Dixie & 401 area of Mississauga on Saturday November 29th.  Please go to www.normajeanes.com for directions. I'll be donating 40% of all proceeds toward a raffled framed photograph, 'Neighbourly Visit' (in my '2008 Current' album), as well as 20% of all items sold.  This is an important fund-raising party that helps ensure that future events, most importantly the Annual Pride Picnic in Brampton, are able to be funded.  Come out and 'dance the night away' ~

CAMH 1001 Queen Street West in Toronto, at Ossington Avenue, will be holding their Christmas Craft Show this year on Thursday December 4th between 9:30am-2:30pm in the inner courtyard/mall.  A percentage of the items I sell will go towards a donation for 2009's 'Bell Walk for Kid's Help Phone'.

As a new member I'll be participating in Visual Arts Mississauga's 1st Annual Juried Photographic & New Media Show, December 10th - December 24th, 4170 Riverwood Park Lane, Mississauga.  The Opening Ceremony will be held on the 10th from 6:00pm and refreshments will be served.  Please see www.visualartsmississauga.com for all the details.   I'll be submitting 2 of my framed photographs for consideration.  Please let me know if you're able to make it on 10th and perhaps I can plan for a get-together afterwards at a restaurant near by.  However please remember that if the 10th doesn't work for you that the exhibit runs straight through until the 24th.  Don't forget to place your ballot for the 'People's Choice award'.

Beaux Art's Brampton , 70 Main Street, will be holding their Juried Christmas Art Show and Sale December 9th - January 3rd.  A reception is being held on the 11th from 5:00 - 9:00pm.  Special Musical guest Karen Coluter will be performing, and as well refreshments and appetizers will be served.  I'll be exhibiting 4 of my framed photographs at this event.  See www.beaux-artsbrampton.com for directions and further details.   Again,  An opportunity will be given at this event for all that attend to vote for the 'People's Choice'  painting or photograph.

As for now that is all that I'll be doing until mid to late february at which time I have 2 shows scheduled.  I'll fill you in on the details mid January.

I wish you all the very best over the holiday season.  May this be your greatest one ever.   Please feel free to get in touch with me if you intend on being in the area and want to drop by for a visit.  You are always welcome...  rossosp@hotmail.com

    More to Report ~

It was confirmed this past Friday, that yes I did win a Peoples Choice award at last months Beaux-Arts Bi-Annual Members Exhibit.  I tied with Kelly McNeil, a well established artist and teacher with her own studio at Beaux-Arts. www.kellymcneil.net .  The two were selected from the 100 pictures submitted for the 3 week exhibition held July 1st through 19th. I feel very fortunate to share the award with such an exceptional artist.  'Winter Bike Ride' was my winning submission ~

I've included as part of my slide show three other recent additions to my portfolio; 'Contented Anticipation',  'J.C's Bail of Hay', and 'What Aout Me?'.  'Winter Bike Ride' can be viewed there as well, if you haven't had a chance to see it.

Beaux-Arts Brampton is holding an impromtu members exhibit on the 18th - 23rd of August that I'll be taking part in.  I hope to be there personally between 3:30pm - 6:00pm on the 19th and between 11:30am - 2:30pm on the 23rd.  I'll be displaying a minimum of 3 of my photographs.  www.beaux-artsbrampton.com

On Saturday August 30th I'll be taking part in 'Art in the Open' as part the Farmers Market festivities held every Saturday morning.  I'll be displaying a wide variety of my framed photography in front of the Rose Theatre betrween 7:30am - 12:30pm.  www.artsbrampton.com .  I've a bio available to look at in the 'Art in the Open' section of their website.

On the morning of October the 11th I'll be back at the Farmer's Market for the final Saturday of that event.  In this case I'll be promoting Beaux-Arts's in a booth in front of the gallery.

Also, I'm very pleased to mention that my photographs are now being sold in the gift shop at The Toronto East General Hospital on Coxwell Avenue at Mortimer.

Lastly, I'd like to mention full-heartedly how much I appreciate all the emotional support and encouragement I'm getting.  The last several months have been an exciting, yet challenging change of pace for me.  It's reassuring knowing that I'm being rooted on by my friends and family ~

    Recent Updates

I`ll be exhibiting at tomorrow night`s Communities in Blooms Festival, July 24th.  Although very short notice, I`m hoping those of you able to attend will pop by to see the most recent aditions to my collection of photography.  The info on the event is as follows:

`The second annual Communities in Bloom Downtown Street Festival offers free family fun for all of Brampton this Thursday evening, July 24th. From 6 to 9:30 p.m., residents will be treated to a variety of entertainment, an artists'alley ,  and local food vendors, during the celebration born out of the city's participation in the Communities in Bloom competition. The festivities take place in Garden Square, in front of the Rose Theatre in downtown Brampton.`

Also I`d like to thank Sue Slean for kindly adding me as a favourite on her community website www.prideeventspeel.com .

Lastly, although not official as yet, I`ve been led to believe I`ve tied with a fellow Artist, Kelly McNeil, for the `People`s Choice award` for works submitted at the event held at Beaux-Arts.  25 artists participated, exhibiting 4 works of art each.  I`m truly honored and am sincerely hoping that the information I was given is in fact correct.

Please be sure to check back in periodically to see about future exhibits.  I`ll  be blogging again in a week or so once the above mentioned award has been confirmed (fingers crossed),...and will soon be posting more photographs as part of my slide show.

    Thanxxx,

    Ross

    Welcome Friends ~

Photography has become my passion. I've rediscovered an artistic side that had not been sufficiently put to use.  I am able to delve into it as a Colour and Space Planning Consultant as well, but not nearly to the same extent.

I welcome any inquiries you may have.  As I haven't included a price list as yet, please let me know which shots you're considering and I'll get back to you ASAP.  I'd be  happy to custom frame and mat the photographs for you as well .

Peace of mind has not always come easily to me.  I'm finding that through my love of photography, I'm lighting up a lot brighter,... which is truly a blessing ~

I look forward to periodically changing the pictures and/or adding new porfolios.  Come back and visit as often as you'd like...

    Best Regards,
    Ross
